Places to Eat

Enjoy a taste of Exmoor! Here are some of the best places to eat, drink and have a wonderful time, just a short distance from Orchard Escapes Exmoor.

Something special

Whether celebrating or enjoying a treat, these are the best restaurants on Exmoor for an exceptional dining experience.

Porlock Weir Hotel

Situated by the harbour in Porlock Weir, Porlock Weir Hotel provides the perfect spot to eat, drink and relax whilst enjoying the beautiful sea views. The stylish dining room is the perfect choice for lunch or dinner no matter what the weather is like outside, with chef Miguel using seasonal ingredients from local suppliers.

In warmer months, you can enjoy alfresco dining on the terrace, the perfect spot for watching the world go by. We recommend ordering a wood-fired pizza!

Reeves Restaurant

We also highly recommend Reeves Restaurant in Dunster for an exceptional dining experience. Set in the historic village of Dunster, overlooked by the magnificent Dunster Castle, Reeves is a multi-award-winning fine dining restaurant serving local produce and seasonal cuisine.

Booking in advance is essential.

Local Pubs

Exmoor has a fantastic choice of coastal and country pubs, serving quality food, great ales and craft beers. The Porlock pubs are within walking distance of Orchard Escapes Exmoor but require walking along the main A39 road.

Porlock

The Ship Inn (Top Ship) in Porlock is a historic 13th-century coaching inn situated at the far end of the village and offers a great selection of food 7 days a week.

The Bottom Ship at Porlock Weir is situated next to the historic harbour and is the perfect spot to enjoy lunch or dinner whilst enjoying the amazing sea views.

The Royal Oak is a traditional, dog-friendly pub on Porlock High Street. Food is available all day Tuesday-Saturday.

Minehead & Dunster

Minehead has many places to dine in or take away. The Old Ship Aground, next to the harbour, provides a great atmosphere and a good menu of home-cooked dishes using locally sourced produce.

The Queens Head Inn in Holloway Street, situated just off The Avenue in Minehead, offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere and serves an excellent choice of pub food and real ales.

The Luttrell Arms, Dunster, sits in the heart of the medieval village and is a 10-minute drive from Orchard Escapes Exmoor. With roaring log fires, cosy bars and elegant yet informal dining areas, it’s the perfect place to call in before or after exploring the village. For something special, try the award-winning Psalters restaurant, or if you prefer casual dining, choose one of the lounge bars or garden.

Wider Exmoor

If you’re exploring wider Exmoor, call in at the local village pubs for a drink and bite to eat. We’re all for supporting local Exmoor businesses!

The Blue Ball Inn, a historic coaching inn at the top of Countisbury Hill, is a great choice to stop at on your way to Lynmouth. With low ceilings, blackened beams and stone fireplaces, it is full of olde worlde charm and provides a great selection of food and drinks.

The Exmoor Forest Inn, Simonsbath, sits at the very heart of Exmoor, offering a daily-changing menu of sustainable, local and delicious food, including beef and lamb from the owners’ organic hill farm. With many stunning walks on the doorstep, this is another highly recommended choice for lunch or dinner in a warm and welcoming Exmoor Inn.

Tea Rooms

What’s a trip to the West Country without a cream tea? Lucky for you, we have 3 outstanding Exmoor tea rooms within walking distance of Orchard Escapes Exmoor. All serve delicious cream teas, light lunches and tasty homemade cakes.

Periwinkle Tea Rooms, Selworthy

Periwinkle Tea Rooms at Selworthy is a 10-15 minute walk, set on the green in the centre of the village. After you have filled up on homemade cakes, visit their gift shop in Clematis Cottage and venture up to the iconic white church on the hill to enjoy breathtaking views across the Porlock Vale.

Horner Tea Gardens

Horner Tea Gardens in the hamlet of Horner is another excellent option. Whilst there, visit the newly opened farm shop at Horner Farm. There are many walks around the ancient woodlands of Horner Woods to work up an appetite.

Kitnors Tea Rooms

Last but not least, we have Kitnors Tea Rooms, situated in the picturesque hamlet of Bossington and a stone’s throw from the beach. Parking is available in the National Trust car park, or you can head there by foot on the circular walk through the woods from Orchard Escapes Exmoor.
