Places to Eat

Exmoor has plenty to choose from to suit all budgets and occasions. Here are just a few places that we can recommend that are a short distance from Orchard Escapes Exmoor.

Something special

If you want to treat yourself or have something to celebrate, you must try these.

Crosslane House

We are so lucky to have Cross Lane House next door to us! Ellen & Billy are amazing and took over the hotel & restaurant in 2020 and have been through the worst year ever to start a business. The food is delicious, a real treat so if you want to spoil yourself or someone special this is the place to go. They also serve a range of delightful cocktails and other beverages. Just a 5-minute walk over the packhorse bridge and along the lane and you’re back to your comfy bed at Orchard Escapes Exmoor.

Update January 2022 – the restaurant is closed until further notice. See website for further details.

Reeves Restaurant

Another place to go for something special is Reeves Restaurant in Dunster. On a par with Cross Lane House, they serve delicious food and drink. Highly recommended although you will need a car or taxi to bring you back.

Local Pubs

There are many local pubs that serve good quality food. Porlock is just within walking distance, although you may not want to brave walking along the main A39 on your way back.

The Castle and The Ship Inn are both great places to get food.

Minehead has many places to eat in or take away. The Old Ship Around next to the harbour provides a great atmosphere and good selection of food.

Wider Exmoor

Many other villages have great pubs to eat so if you’re out on Exmoor please pop in and support these local businesses.

Tea Rooms

You are spoilt for choice from your base at Orchard Escapes Exmoor. Three outstanding choices within easy walking distance. All serve delicious cream teas, light lunches, yummy cakes.

Periwinkle Tea Rooms, Selworthy

Periwinkle tea rooms at Selworthy is a 10-15 minute walk, set on the green in the centre of the village. After you have filled up on cakes visit their gift shop in clematis cottage and venture up to the iconic white church on the hill to see the breath-taking views across the Porlock Vale.

Horner Tea Rooms

Horner tea rooms in the hamlet of Horner is another great option. Whilst there visit the newly opened farmshop at Horner Farm. There are many walks around the ancient woodlands of Horner woods to walk off the consumed calories.

Kitnor Tea Rooms

Kitnor tea rooms at Bossington is your third option. In the picturesque hamlet on Bossington. Visit on your way down to the beach. There is a circular walk taking you through the woods from Orchard Escapes Exmoor.

Take Away

If you’re staying on a Friday night through the summer months your luck is in! Mark and Holly at Horner Farm offer pizzas in their wood fired pizza oven. Eat in or take away they offer a more unusual but delicious choice of seasonal toppings. Easily combined with a gentle walk across to Horner from your base.

Fish & Chips

There are many to choose from. Minehead has many options – one we usually choose is Seafare fish and chips in Alcombe next to the Co-op. However, there are many other choices all with good reviews.

Something Sweet

The Dessert Club, Minehead deliver a range of sweet treats, crepes and milkshakes to indulge in.

China Garden in Alcombe provides all the usual selection of delicious Chinese foods.

Vladis pizza and pasta offer homemade authentic pizzas and Italian dishes. Based in The Avenue in the centre of Minehead to collect or delivery is possible.
