We run two farms on Exmoor, a family-owned hill farm on the edge of Winsford Hill and a tenanted National Trust farm – the home of Orchard Escapes Exmoor.
Welcome to our farm
We (Chris & Paula) have lived on Exmoor all our lives. Both from farming families, our parents & grandparents have been lucky to live on Exmoor for generations. We run two farms on Exmoor, a family-owned hill farm on the edge of Winsford Hill and a tenanted National Trust farm the home of Orchard Escapes Exmoor.
Chris’s parents Robert & Diana live in a cottage on the farm and are still very much involved in the business. Robert took on the tenancy of the farm 30 years ago and if you like to find out more about farming on Exmoor or anything local, he will enjoy telling you his stories!
We have 3 sons, Matthew, Ben & Henry. They all have a love for the farming way of life, working with the animals and especially driving the tractors or quad bike. Matthew & Ben both work for other farmers and Henry is still at school but only has one ambition when he leaves – to be a farmer!
As most farms on Exmoor, we keep cattle and sheep. 60 devon or Hereford cross cows with calves and around 700 ewes with lambs keep us busy. Our youngest son, Henry keeps around 30 hens and can provide you with some delicious eggs for your breakfast.
Despite our farming history, the future of farming leaves us with many uncertainties. We face many changes and challenges ahead. We started thinking about ways we could continue farming but provide additional income streams when we took over managing the farm from Robert & Diana. Several years later we decided on glamping where the experience and adventure of the great outdoors meets the luxury and comfort of the great indoors. We love living on Exmoor and want to share this with you so you too can experience and enjoy this delightful place on earth.
